Why Are We Different
We work with companies that are tackling the systemic food system challenges driving nature and biodiversity loss in Asia. Our approach reflects both the urgency of the nature and climate crises, but patience with the complexity of the solutions.
We provide nature-based businesses with a blend of early-stage finance, tailored company-building services and deep expertise on nature-based solutions – helping companies on their journey towards stability, profitability and scale.
Reflecting the pace of change in nature, all of our partnerships are long term, and begin with a process of actively listening to the needs of the companies we seek to support.

Who Do We Support
We target our support towards early stage businesses that can demonstrate positive outcomes for nature and biodiversity. As a guide, there are 2 broad archetypes of businesses we typically support:
Our Investment Approach
Seed
Early stage, post-problem/solution-fit stage companies seeking $100-500k of investment.
Existing pilot completed.
Clear pathway to impact, and/or a desire to make this a central focus of the business.
A clear desire to grow and scale.
The need for technical support that extends to several areas of the business (e.g. financial modelling, plus go-to-market strategy)
Scale
Early-stage companies with established, well-defined business models, seeking US$500-$1m of investment.
Strong business fundamentals but may be struggling to reach break-even or profitability.
Business has a well defined impact story, but may need help to quantify or build into business model.
Specific expertise gaps (e.g. carbon modelling, impact measurement)
Risk Tolerant, Flexible Capital
Through our partnerships with a range of investors Terratai is able to provide our ventures with access to a range of customised and catalytic financial instruments, from equity, debt, mezzanine, revenue shares, and working capital. We also work closely with each venture to attract co-investments or follow-on investments.
Investing Across the Return Spectrum
Our ventures typically provide a range of IRR (Internal Rate of Return), from high single digit to 20%, depending on the type of company we support.
Addressing Systemic Challenges
Terratai invests in early-stage ventures with the potential to address the systemic drivers of ecosystem and biodiversity loss and damage. We support companies with a marine or terrestrial focus, and are currently targeting investments in Indonesia.
Each of our ventures has a strong ambition to scale, and their solutions have potential to demonstrate deep impact at either the level of a sector, or across multiple geographies.
Direct Impact on At-Risk Ecosystems
Terratai prioritises ventures that can demonstrate a positive impact on nature and biodiversity, and in particular on at-risk geographies across Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
Field Building and Knowledge Sharing
Terratai strives to support and build the community of those working on NBS (Nature-based Solutions), and commits to sharing catalyze and demonstrate innovative NBS models and share learnings and experience along the journey
HIVE (Holistic Investments in Vital Ecosystems)
A Blended Finance Facility for Nature and Biodiversity in Southeast Asia
HIVE is a blended finance facility led by Terratai to protect 6 million hectares of vital ecosystems across Southeast Asia and mobilize US$200 million in new financing for nature. Through HIVE, Terratai aims to support 100 pioneering, early-stage, nature-positive companies by 2035, helping them grow from proof of concept to investment-ready ventures that can attract institutional capital.
Why HIVE
Asia’s ecosystems are among the most biodiverse in the world—but also some of the most threatened. Many early-stage businesses that can protect and restore these ecosystems struggle to access the funding needed to scale.
HIVE bridges this “missing middle” by combining catalytic philanthropy with risk-tolerant investment capital, creating a pathway for nature-positive ventures to achieve stability, profitability, and long-term impact.

A closed-end investment facility providing early-stage growth capital between US$1–3 million to proven nature-positive ventures in Asia.
These ventures, primarily sourced from the Pipeline Builder, receive support to scale their operations and bridge the gap to institutional investors.

Jembatan: A Working Capital Facility for Nature
Why Jembatan?
Access to flexible, affordable capital is often out of reach for early-stage companies working to protect nature. Many impact focused SMEs need concessional, non-collateralised loans to grow sustainably. Our working capital facility, Jembatan (“The Bridge”) was created to close this gap, providing essential working capital to ventures driving real environmental impact.
How it works
Jembatan provides non-collateralized, concessional loans to early-stage companies that can demonstrate impact on nature and biodiversity. Revenue from these loans is recycled back into the facility, allowing Terratai to continue to deploy investments. Through this facility:
- Seed-stage ventures receive smaller loans to test and prove their business models.
- Scaling-stage companies gain access to larger, flexible loans to expand operations sustainably.
With a seed investment of US$3m, Terratai aims to deploy up to US$20m working capital loans to nature within the next 15 years. We are actively looking for investors willing to support this mission.
