where we work

Terratai is focused on working with companies who have the potential to create positive impact in one or more of South-East Asia’s most at-risk marine and terrestrial ecosystems or key biodiversity areas.

Initially, Terratai is focusing efforts on Indonesia.

Indonesia, contains a significant proportion of the planet's biodiversity. Estimates suggest that Indonesia is home to approximately 10-15% of global plant species, 12% of mammal species, and 17% of bird species (WWF, 2023), exceptional numbers of which are found nowhere else on earth. The country's vast and diverse ecosystems include rainforests, coral reefs, wetlands, and mangroves, among others establishing it’s unique position as a bridge between the Asian and Australian continents.

The unsustainable exploitation of Indonesia’s natural resources, primarily via large scale deforestation, unsustainable fishing practices, and mining, also endangers Indonesia’s future economic sustainability and has broad impacts on the region as a whole (UNDP, 2022). Ensuring the sustainable management of Indonesia's natural resources is therefore a key concern for not only biodiversity protection, but of social justice and economic security for millions of Indonesians.

Terratai focuses its support towards businesses that can demonstrate current (or the capacity for future) positive impacts on Indonesia’s most critical ecosystems.
